Students benefit greatly when offered opportunities to engage in the fine arts, including improved creativity, enhanced fine motor skills and emotional growth and development. St. Mary’s teachers encourage students to explore extracurricular activities including drama, music and choir, band and speech.
St. Mary's School Drama Department holds two performances each year, a high school play in the fall and a middle school play in the spring. This extracurricular activity is a wonderful way to build self-esteem and confidence by learning skills like listening, communicating verbally and nonverbally, memorizing, improvising and more. Stage crew helpers are also an important part of the production which offers opportunities to use other skills and talents outside performing.
Early exposure in grade school introduces students to vocal and instrumental music. The pre-K–8 choral music program and grades 5–8 band program expose students to music fundamentals including rhythm, notes, pitch and more.
St. Mary's offers group and individual speech programs, which help develop self-confidence, strong communication and listening skills as well as the ability to speak in public to a variety of audiences. Students have opportunities to compete at the district and state levels.
